Icopal has made its own contribution to the thriving Irish film industry by supplying the roofing for the production offices at Belfast’s new state-of-the-art studio complex at Giant’s Park.
“As some of you may know, Belfast is now the ‘go to’ destination for many major film companies,” explains James Robb, Regional Sales Director. “You probably know us as a location for the hugely successful ‘Game of Thrones’ – if it’s an outdoor scene and it’s ‘green’ then it’s in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
“But you may not be aware that the sound stage for most of the ‘indoor’ shots is in Belfast’s Harbour Estate and that this is currently the largest sound stage in Europe.”
The £20 million Belfast Harbour Studios stretches over seven acres and includes: two film studios and sound stages of more than 3,000m² each; two workshop buildings of more than 1,000m²; and a three-storey office and production building of nearly 3,500m².
The huge sound stage buildings were specified in low pitched metal as part of an overall envelope system and the Production Building design was for a flat roof with 1,500m² Icopal Monarplan PVC Single Ply Roofing, installed by Tandragee Roofing (IMA).
The first major production from this new studio has just been announced – the new Warner Brothers Superman Series ‘Krypton’ is being filmed there.
“And when it comes out we’ll know that post production work has been undertaken under the security of an Icopal Insured System guaranteed roof,” says James.
