The Monofutur mechanically fixed system offers a fast-track method of application ideally suited to exposed locations and high wind loads. Monofutur membrane is mechanically fixed through to the structural deck using Icopal Tubular Fasteners and Fixings of appropriate length.
The fasteners are required to penetrate through the structural deck with a minimum projection to the underside of 25mm. The fasteners are positioned within the overlap of adjacent sheets. Fixing centres are determined following completion of a wind uplift calculation, carried out during the initial design stage (refer to Icopal Technical Services for further information).
Thermal insulation boards should be independently mechanically fastened to the structural deck. The number of fixings and the application pattern is dependant upon the size and type of insulation board.

Monofutur’s unique Icopal “safety” overlap is made of the same specially formulated elastomer bitumen and finished with a thermofusible film with cut lines, the lower and the upper surfaces of the overlap form a secure bond for optimum overlap adhesion preventing capillary action.
The 120mm side overlap facilitates mechanical fixing with the printed selvedge film indicating the position of the fixings. The affect of wind on a single layer roof covering should be determined at an early stage. Wind loads are determined by completion of a calculation as recommended in BS EN 1911-1-4.
