Construction sites can be a dangerous environment and the construction of masonry structures means that you may be working at height and as such all necessary personal protection equipment must be made available and worn at all times. In particular adequate and safe scaffolding must be provided, capable of being loaded with bricks, mortar, damp proofing materials and the like.
Adequate edge protection and kick boards must be provided in line with the relevant safety requirements for construction sites.
Always consider the following;
Safe access to your place of work; ladders to access scaffolding must be of the proper type and set at the correct height, in good condition and securely fixed to prevent movement or slippage.
Edge protection: proper edge protection, hand rails and kick boards must be provided to all areas of scaffolding to prevent falls and materials and tools being dropped and causing injury to people below.
Overhead cables: check that any cables passing overhead will not interfere with operations, taking particular care when moving metal ladders and scaffolding poles.
Personal Protection: always wear the appropriate personal protection equipment ie: boots, gloves, goggles and hard hat.
